Battle Royale World Against Apex Legends

Apex Legends is a free Battle Royale game from Respawn Entertainment released on February 4 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The game has already posted more than 25 million downloads and peaked two million simultaneous players since its release, according to EA Games publisher. On Twitch TV, the game also became a phenomenon and had an average audience of 250,000 people in the last week. Even Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, one of the biggest streamers in the world, has already made lives playing Apex and participated in the first tournament of the game.

The worldwide success places Apex as a strong competitor of two other great games of the genre: Fortnite and PUBG. Here is a comparison between the numbers and records beaten by the main Battle Royals of the moment.

Apex Legends vs Fortnite

According to EA, Apex Legends reached 10 million downloads in just 72 hours after its release. The game also reached 25 million downloads and two million concurrent players in a week. Fortnite hit the ten million mark two weeks after launching the Battle Royale mode, which took place in September 2017, which is fewer than what Apex has achieved so far.

The Epic Games title, in turn, reached 200 million registered players and 8.3 million simultaneous players in November 2018. The two games are free, but Fortnite is present on more platforms: the Nintendo Switch and the mobile version for Android and iPhone ( iOS ).

Battle of numbers

Fortnite is one of the most successful games on Twitch TV. There were 107 million hours of on-platform broadcasts in just the last 30 days. During the month of June 2018, a million and a half people attended the game. This was the highest audience reached by the Battle Royale.

The numbers, however, began to decline with the release of Apex Legends. In consultation before the closure of this story, 568 thousand people were watching the streams of Apex Legends, while 97 thousand spectators were registered at Fortnite.

Apex Legends vs PUBG

PUBG Corp. made the game available in early access in March 2017 for PC. Moreover, in December of the same year, it reached the record 3 million concurrent players on Steam. Only in late 2018, PUBG Corp made the game available for PS4 and Xbox One.

Apex Legends had 2 million concurrent players totaling all platforms. Another major difference from PUBG is the fact that you have to purchase the game, while EA’s release is free.

Among the live broadcasts, Apex Legends beat the competitor’s popularity. In the last seven days, there have been more than 41 million hours broadcast on Twitch, against just four million PUBG. The record number of channels broadcasting the Battle Royale of 2017 on the platform was 6,000 in April 2018. On February 10, Apex Legends recorded a peak of 18,000 streamers. In consultation before the closure, Apex had 568,000 simultaneous viewers, compared to 27,000 of the competition.
