DreamHack Masters Dallas 2019 Grand Finals Recap

After winning the grand finale against ENCE, Team Liquid occupy the first place in the Intel Grand Slam Season 2 rankings. Since the side has secured second consecutive major title by winning the DreamHack Masters Dallas 2019.

On their way to the competition, Team Liquid faced its fair share of criticism. Since the side lost the final of the cs_summit 4 to Team Vitality. Yet it seemed like the side has learned from its mistakes, since the dominated the Group Stage. They also outplayed FURIA and ENCE, so it is safe to say that Liquid are heading to the ECS Season 7 finals as the favourites. Let’s have comprehensive look into final series of the competition.

Game 1

The grand finale started with an exciting 5v5 battle on the Mirage. But Liquid eventually got the control of the game by the slightest margins. The NA side had an 8-7 lead at the break. In the second half, Liquid executed a flawless defence as they played as CTs. At the end the got a 1-0 lead after closing the Mirage 16-8.

Game 2

After an incredibly one side games, many predicted that Liquid will again outplay ENCE and claim the trophy. Since, the second map of the series was Overpass where ENCE had just a 33% win rate on LAN in the past three months. Despite their backs against wall, the Fins came out all guns blazing. At the end of the first half ENCE were up 8-7. After that the second half was evenly contested by both teams. The map was pushed to Overtime, yet at the end Fins tied the series 1-1, with a 19-17 result.

Game 3

After two phenomenal games, the fans expected a complete blood bath in the third game and they got it. After the 11 rounds played in the first half, ENCE found itself at the end of a 10-1 beating by Liquid. Yet at the break ENCE managed to close the gap 10-5. This gave the Fins a decent opportunity to make formulate a comeback.

ENCE opened the second half with three consecutive points. It included Sami ‘xseveN‘ Laasanen getting a 1v4 clutch. This great start by ENCE led to the fans believing that Liquid will again choke in a final of the competition. Yet Liquid had other plays and won some round back to back and were just one point away from from clinching the title.

In the last round of the series, Jake ‘Stewie2K‘ Yip took the responsibility by getting three kills on the banana. Meanwhile, Russel ‘Twistzz‘ Van Dulken sealed the win by eliminating the last two opponents. Meanwhile, Jonathan ‘EliGe’ Jablonowski claimed the MVP award and additionally earned $100,000.

In will exciting to see Liquid in action in the next few days at the ECS. Since it will host eight top teams in the world who aside from the glory will be competing for the lion’s share of $500,000 prize pool.
