The final day of the first phase ended less than an hour ago. Out of the 12 teams competing in the competition, only eight make their way to the next phase. Two teams have been eliminated for each group. The competition will be now be played in upper and lower brackets of the playoffs.
The top two
EG was absolutely phenomenal in the first two days of the competition. The side had a remarkable 8-0 streak and got the first spot in the upper bracket. With the end of the Group A we also know which side will EG face in the first game of the playoffs. The kings of NA will take on the powerhouse of the SEA region, TNC. We should tell you that EG didn’t remain unbeaten in the entire first faced as they dropped a game to PSG.LGD today.
After witnessing an astonishing defeat to Alliance yesterday, the Chinese lineup of PSG.LGD reigned supreme on the last day of the competition. Against all the odd, the side brought an end to the dominating winning streak of EG. This enabled them to secure an upper bracket spot in the playoffs. In the second game of the series. The teams made interesting picks by drafting an invis squad with Bounty Hunter, Treant Protector and Riki. Yet still the Chinese side prevailed. In the upper bracket PSG.LGD will take on its Chinese rivals, Vici Gaming.
The bottom two
Despite having a decent start to the tournament, Keen Gaming finished dead last in its respective group. The team lost 2-0 to Gambit Esports. The next team that joined them was the EU side Alliance. The only highlight of the team in the competition was their triumph against the runner-ups of TI8, PSG.LGD. After that the team failed to find its way in the competition and their elimination was inevitable.
Meanwhile, Gambit and Team Secret finished in the middle of the table. The teams will now have to find their way to the grand finale by battling in the lower bracket. The lower bracket will kick off tomorrow, while the upper bracket will begin in the next few hours.
Exciting action ahead
Lets see how these teams will play out in the next playout in the next phase of the competition. We would love to see Secret fighting the odds and reign supreme in the lower bracket. Yet we cannot take any team for granted at this stage, since no one is still about the meta after the 7.22b. So anyone can win the title. The ESL Birmingham is a great competition to train for the next DPC competitions. Since apart from the attractive prize pools and trophies, the DPC competitions hold qualifying points for the TI9. We are still waiting for the final list of top 12 since the last four spots are still up for grabs.
