Preview of StarLadder Major Berlin 2019

The StarLadder Major Berlin 2019 starts in a few hours in Berlin, Germany. For the first time a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) Major will be attended by three Brazilian teams: MIBR , FURIA Esports and INTZ Esports. In addition to the Brazilian representatives, 21 other teams will be in contention for the title and a prize pool of $ 1 million. The grand finale of the competition will take place on 8th September.

Tournament matches can be spectated live on Steam.TV and official StarLadder channels on Twitch TV. We will have a comprehensive look at the important dates and formats of the competition.

Teams Distribution

In total there will be 24 teams divided into two categories: New Challengers and New Legends. The first stage of the tournament will feature 16 teams. Out of those sixteen, eight teams secured the Challengers spot by finishing the last major between the ninth and sixteenth position. While the other eight secured their spot by winning the qualifiers. The last phase, New Legends, has the top eight finishers of the IEM Katowice Major 2019.


StarLadder Major Berlin will be contested in three stages: New Challengers Stage, New Legends Stage and New Champions Stage.

New Challengers Stage

The New Challenges Stage takes place August 23-26. 16 teams will play in the first phase of the Major. Swiss format will be implemented, where teams that win three games will advance to the next phase of the competition. The tiebreakers and elimination games will be played in the best-of-three format (BO3). While all the other games will be played in the best-of-one series. At the end, the top eight will advance to the New Legends Stage.

New Legends Stage

The New Legends Stage will be played between August 28th and September 1st. The second phase of the competition will also feature 16 teams: Eight teams that advanced from the New Challenges Stage and eight that hold the Legend status. Just like the previous phase, the New Legends Stage will also be in Swiss format. Tiebreakers and elimination matches will be contested BO3 series. The top eight teams of the stage will advance to the last stage of the competition.

New Champions Stage

The Major’s last phase, New Champions Stage, will take place from September 5-8, and will only feature eight teams that will compete in a single elimination format. All matches will be played in BO3 series, including the grand final. The top eight finishers in Berlin will automatically qualify for the first 2020 Major with Legends status.

  • 2nd Place: US $ 150K and Spring 2020 CS: GO Major Legend Status 
  • 3rd and 4th place: $ 70 thousand and Legend status in Spring 2020 CS: GO Major 
  • 5the to 8 the place: $ 35 thousand and Legend status in Spring 2020 CS: GO Major 
  • 9th to 14th place: $ 8,750 and New Challenging Status in Spring 2020 CS: GO Major 
  • 15th and 16th place: US $ 8,750
