Team Liquid players left the organization on September 13, 2019. The leader of the team Kuro “KuroKy” Salehi Tahasomi plans to create his own organization with the same roster. Meanwhile, Liquid announced that it hopes to assemble a new Dota2 side in the near future. They are now looking for players who “will continue the legacy of the previous squad.”
KuroKy spent almost four years on the team – during which he won 15 major championships, including The International 2017. The German joined Team Liquid on October 2015 with MinD_ContRoL and MATUMBAMAN. Prior to the 2016/2017 season, the team was also represented by Fata and JerAx. Kuro won three major championships in the first season with the side. Then the team recruited Miracle- and GH who helped Liquid win 12 more trophies.
Golden era for Kuroky and crew
KuroKy competed in 887 games as part of the European team and won on 572 occasions. Before replacing MATUMBAMAN, the Team Liquid roster played 494 matches. This places them on fourth spot in the list of the teams that have played so many games without making any changes to their lineups. The teams that had longer rosters include Alliance, Fnatic and Newbee.
KuroKy and MinD_ContRoL represented the club for almost four years. They spent 1,415 days in the team. MATUMBAMAN joined the team at the same time, but left the organization before EPICENTER Major 2019. He spent 1,329 days in Team Liquid – more than Amer Miracle- al-Barkawi (1,047), Maroon GH Merhej (984) and Alivi w33 Omar (64).
It was fun while it lasted
The last change in Team Liquid’s roster took place on June 20, 2019. The side decided to replace Lasse “MATUMBAMAN” Urpalainen with Alivi “w33” Omar. At The International 2019, the team took second place, earning more than $4 million.
The organization first assembled a Dota 2 roster in December 2012. The team won The International 2017, China Dota2 Supermajor, two EPICENTER tournaments in 2016 and 2017. The were also crowned champions of SL i-League StarSeries Season 3. In the 2018/2019 season, Liquid won the MDL Macau 2019 and finished second in the MDL Disneyland® Paris Major and EPICENTER Major 2019.
This announcement from one of the most prestigious eSports organizations has truly shocked the Dota2 community. Jonathan “Loda” Berg noted that the departure of the roster from the organization marks the end of an era. The Alliance Coach added that he is looking forward to the name of KuroKy’s new organization. Insider Vikram Reddy wrote that at first it will be difficult to see Kuro and the rest of the team without Team Liquid colors.
Vitaly “v1lat” Volochay noted that discussions about the new Dota2 composition for the organization have been going on since last summer. According to him, the team is already negotiating with other clubs and players.
