The prize pools in eSports are growing at a rapid pace: Nine years ago at The International 2011 of Dota 2, Valve distributed a million dollars. Moving forward to 2019, two eSports championships will have a combined prize pool of more than $ 60 million. Today, we will look at the top ten eSports tournaments with the most significant prize funds. The ranking takes into account only the competitions that play out on the LAN-finals.

The International 2019

The International 2019 takes the first place: It reached a prize fund of $ 30 million thanks to the community who bought the Battle Pass and levels for it. Valve moves of 25% of earnings from each transaction, and also invested initial capital of $ 1.6 million.

eSports against the world

eSports tournaments are comparable to championships in traditional sports in terms of prize-size, but they are yet to match the top disciplines. For example, the winner of the World Cup in 2018 received $ 38 million, and a total prize pool of $ 400 million was played in the tournament. The prize money of the US Open 2019 tennis championship was $ 57 million for the first time.

At the end of the day, it is great to see that the eSports industry is progressing by leaps and bounds. This progress ensures luxurious careers for the players who sacrifice their time and energy in playing games. Who knows, in the next couple of years this list will be dominated by titles that are under development.

Future of Apex Legends

We believe that in the next few months we could see Apex Legends breaking into the list. Since it has recently introduced a ranked mode, which is played by millions of players from across the globe, we might not see a grand slam tournament in 2019, but in 2020 we recommend you to keep an eye on the title since Respawn will surely love to compete in the top ranks.
